My own island home is the Mangrove Oriental Resort, Malapascua’s best-kept secret and most luxurious digs, tucked in a lush cove full of mangroves. You’ll find plenty of flowering and fruit-bearing trees here, plus ducks, chickens, goats and Charlie, the monkey. Three theme villas are available: the Safari Family House, the Kasbah Moroccan-inspired honeymoon suite and the Banyan House. Resort owner Josephine Macazo fusses over her guests, giving them a taste of warm Filipino hospitality, such as a glass of refreshing juice made from limes harvested fresh from her trees, and hearty home-cooked Filipino meals.Nestled in a secluded cove overlooking the Visayan Sea experience a sense of paradise and calm at the Mangrove Oriental. Created for those who wish to forget the pressures of life and for those who crave peace and tranquility.Mangrove Oriental currently has eight elegantly designed cottages, each set amidst its own picturesque garden.Come and enjoy the delights of tropical living in this exotic hideaway, the Mangrove Oriental Resort.

How to get there

From Cebu to Malapascua Island:The coastal journey from Cebu City and boat trip across to Malapascau Island is sure to be scenic one.Once in Cebu, Ceres Liner and ’Rough Riders Bus Service leave from Cebu Northern Bus Terminal located near the Shoe Mart ‘SM’ Shopping Center. The first bus departs Cebu at 6:00 a.m. and arrives in Maya, North Eastern tip of Cebu at 9:30 a.m. Buses depart every 30 minutes and run until 18:00 p.m.From early morning to late afternoon several boats depart from Maya sailing directly to Bounty beach, the main stretch for budget accommodation, karaoke bars, discos and restaurants on Malapascua Island. The boat ride takes about 30 minutes. Small rowing boats are sometimes necessary to take you to the shoreline during low tide. It’s advisable to wear shorts and rubber sandals as you may get your feet wet at this point.Malapascua is not a large island and Mangrove Oriental Resort is only a 7 minute walk or short ‘habal – habal’ (motor bike) ride from Bounty beach. From Other destinations within the Visayas:Boat connection between Malapascua and Santa Fe (Bantayan Island)Travel time between Santa Fe on Bantayan Island and Malapascua Island is about 2 hours 30 minutes.Boat connection between Malapascua and San Isidro (Leyte)There is a daily boat service from San Isidro (on Leyte) to Maya. Boats depart at 7am. Journey time: 2 hours. Departure from Maya to San Isidro at 10am.
