If you need to travel long distances or to another province and you enjoy long road trips as you look at beautiful landscapes of the country side, riding a bus is the way to go. It is a less expensive alternative to traveling by plane.
Types of Buses
If you are going to travel for more than eight hours, you can ride a luxury bus which features lazy boy-like chairs. Otherwise, ride a bus with air conditioning unit and TV onboard. If you are on a tight budget, go for a non-aircon bus in which traveling may be less comfortable but the fare is less expensive.
In Metro Manila, there are a lot of city buses - air-conditioned and non-air conditioned - that have well-defined routes and will take you anywhere within the Metro Manila area.
Provincial buses have scheduled trips and well-defined routes to almost any point in Luzon. Bus companies have their own terminals in different parts of Metro Manila. You can also go to another island by bus through the RORO or roll-on, roll-off ferries.
Tips when Traveling Long Distances by Bus
-
If you plan to go to provinces such as Baguio or Bicol, you need to reserve a bus ticket to ensure that you will have a decent seat. Bear in mind that it will take eight hours or more to reach these provinces and you will get tired and frustrated if you do not feel comfortable during the trip. If you can, buy your ticket several days in advance especially if you will be traveling during the Holy Week or Christmas season.
Bus travel is a practical choice for those who like long road trips and have the luxury of time to travel for several hours. Give it a try when you visit the Philippines.
